 When I found this LP in a well traversed record store in Ontario early 90's it was quite like
it was heaven sent. A weirdo cover that was not alluding to what was on the groove press
and when I set that cruddy in store out-of-phase-wired needle down to listen, that was it.
The $8.00 exchange was
in order for me to study this LP further down the night.
There are many reasons this is an intriguing music document. The first for me was the
spontaneous jam like quality that had an incorporated element of sound that was all over the map
but cohesive that I dig. Outerspace music that was very rootsy because there was electronic
foolery going on, it was still all syrupy with the human analogue.
Michal jacks his violin custom combo into electric motorways to the mind.  It works and
you can tell he is just pumping with inspiration yet he's still procuring his talent.
Since these sessions were from 1971-1972 they have a very similar vibe and feel.
The inside cover (I lost my scans) of the Catalyst reissue of both albums had a superb
photo of the band inside a barn recording live, which was hitting a personal vibe with me
because at the time I had a set up very similar with friends, playing and recording live.

We were not playing at the calibre or kinetic as this band! haha

The original LP's were put out in Germany a year before Catalyst in the states put them together
for the 2-fer special package.

Going on with how the music impacted me, the next aspect of the music to standout was the drumming.
Sloppy funk tribal with creative patterns and sweet off beat swings. Very basic recording techniques
prove to be a blessing for this LP and the drums shine grit as they don't sound over mic'd.
Then comes in Urszula Dudziak to the picture. From almost the start to the finish she's
defining role as a huge splash of various tones of psychedelic vocal color works.
Her scatting and conjouring acrobats of the vocal chords are brought into another dimension
through this album with the help of an tape ECHO UNIT which she controls real time.


Really fucking outta sight.


This album also had a strange parallel. At the time during a 3 or 4 year period I was buying some albums that I was really into for usage for sampling or taking break beats from. This album fit that
concept throughout and then to my chagrin, Qtip of a Tribe Called Quest had it in the wings
and dropped that album in 1996 with the sample base, throughout the album from
this album.  I was floored yet bemused. I'm sure others have had this experience especially
with break beats.


So then of course the rest is the bam thank ya ma'am. The bass is combination Upright and maybe
Fender Jazz electric also well recorded and handled with soul. A feast of
keyboards and the highlight being the Rhodes that sparkles and then distorts
to the movement of some of the more dangerous moments on the LP.
They go from soft space float sounds to speedy screechy acid jazz that you won't hear
anywhere else unless you play the album again.   ~oatstao 2011
